This past week I attended the Global Leadership Summit; my seventh time. Each year is chalk-full of leadership insights, and this year was no exception. For in-depth highlights and insights, check out this blog.
Here are a few highlights:
Alan Mulally, former CEO of Ford Motor Company & Boeing
– Once we begin joking at another’s expense, we are no longer working in a safe environment.
Dr. Travis Bradberry, author of Emotional Intelligence 2.0
– Our ability to control our emotional intelligence and stress levels are highly connected to our sleep routine.
Chris McChesney, author of The Four Disciplines of Execution
– We can only focus on one goal at a time. The more we have, the less effective we become.
– As leaders, we must ensure those around us are playing a winnable game; it’s the #1 driver of morale and engagement.
Patrick Lencioni, author of The Ideal Team Player
– When you’re absolutely clear about the kind of team environment you want and expect from people, those who don’t fit into the culture will opt out before ever getting into it in the first place.
This, however, is my biggest takeaway:
After reflecting on everything I heard, I came to the conclusion that we’ve learned more to date than we’ll ever be able to implement. Unless we actually do something with what we know, what’s the point? We have to be willing to push ourselves to become better. If not we’re willing to do that, we’ll wake up someday wondering what could have been.
If we acted on 10% of what we were challenged by, our world would be a vastly better place. Do something with what you know. Otherwise, you’ve squandered more than you could imagine.
Did you go to the Global Leadership Summit? If so, what was your biggest takeaway?
